The goal is not to get as many people in as possible. “It’s not a promotional event”. The company also disclosed that it is on its way to recruiting its first batch of beta testers.
One of its goals, the announcement has said, is to get quality feedback from its participants. Blizzard has officialy announced that Overwatch beta would be for Windows only.
According to a post on Blizzard’s site, the reason for this is to obtain feedback and stress-test its infrastructure. The Overwatch Beta won’t be available on Macs at all. The Beta Test Weekends, on the other hand, are more focused on stress testing the servers and other hardware, so maps, heroes, and gameplay modes will be limited.
That Beta is all about balancing and testing different characters in full on combat with others and a second round of testers will also be used to put a few strain on the servers.
No release date for “Overwatch” has been given, though it could be announced sometime after the beta tests have finished. If you’re selected to participate in either the Closed Beta or one of our Beta Test Weekends, you’ll receive an email with instructions when you’re ready to be deployed.
