Overwatch ‘Interview’ Seems to Tease Next Hero
According to IGN, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan has just reconfirmed to the world that his team is now working multiple new heroes. “We’d rather not hold new hero releases for these emotes”. In fact, not until Kaplan downplayed Doomfist as the next superhero did fans begin to wonder who the next superhero will be. It’s more of a prioritization issue. We have multiple new heroes being worked on right now plus numerous events and event-related content. “Hope that makes sense”.
Blizzard has placed quite a few little details in Overwatch that teases upcoming heroes.
Overwatch game director, Jeff Kaplan gave today’s keynote presentation at D.I.C.E. Summit, and used the platform to talk about his team’s approach to worldbuilding and character design.
There will be other developers from Bandai Namco, id Software, Insomniac Games and more who will be competing in the tournament. During the Unity Day festivities, the gauntlet of Doomfist was escorted to the Numbani Heritage Museum on the payload by the attacking team. One of these clues is an actual poster of Doomfist. The Interview with Efi was posted on the Overwatch website.
The hottest theory going around right now is that Efi is working on a new hero, and considering the connection to robotics and AI, it looks set to be a new Omnic hero. Although, Eurogamer pointed out that a possible candidate might be a character known as “Greek”. League of Legends features Annie, a child pyromancer whose stuffed bear turns into a burning monster.
According to the blog post, Efi has “built a resume of impressive achievements in robotics and artificial intelligence”, while also becoming the recipient of the Adawe Foundation’s “genius grant”. After years of work on Project Titan, the massive MMO that was to be Blizzard’s big follow-up to World of Warcraft, the game had been unceremoniously canceled (though official confirmation of that cancellation wouldn’t come for another year). On that note, players shouldn’t expect the wonder kid to make an appearance anytime soon.
And, who knows, maybe one day we’ll get Doomfist.
