Owl survives crashing into semi truck and getting stuck in its grill
Officials were called in from the DNR, and they were able to remove the great horned owl.
Wildlife officials rescued the owl Sunday after the bird was struck by a semi-trailer and then carried along in the vehicle’s grill for a few distance before it was found.
According to the Weber County, Utah, Sheriff’s Office, a trucker hit the owl on I-15 overnight and drove with the owl in the vehicle’s grill for several miles. The trucker remembered “hitting the bird sometime during the night but did not realize it got stuck in the grill”, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday.
Staff at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre of Northern Utah said the owl had broken bones in both wings and a few internal injuries and that it isn’t clear if it will survive.
The animal suffered a broken wing but was expected to survive after undergoing rehabilitation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
