Owner Mark Cuban speaks out on DeAndre Jordan’s decision to spurn Mavs
An extraordinarily odd day in the NBA-one that included professional basketball players communicating through cryptic emoji messages and barricading the home of another player-ended around midnight Thursday with Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan reportedly agreeing to a new contract with the Clippers days after verbally committing to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks.
It’s understood that the Clippers got to Jordan first, swayed him to change course and stay with the team on a four year contract worth $84 million. Jordan can opt out after three years.
Afterwards, the Clippers tweeted: “Home is where your (heart) is”. Griffin told Jordan to contact Clippers head coach and President Doc Rivers who with owner Steve Ballmer and a contingency of players flew to Houston on Wednesday to persuade their star center to return to LA. Paul wasn’t with the Clippers for their first meeting with Jordan last week. Per Yahoo, those at the household then started playing cards and video games while Jordan’s mother ordered food for her guests. The Clippers’ Blake Griffin posted a plane, helicopter and auto after previously posting a photo of a beach in Hawaii.
ESPN’s sources claim that members of the Clippers organization visited Jordan in his Houston home on Wednesday night.
Jordan’s initial decision was devastating to the Clippers because of their limited options for replacing him.
“He reached out to us and said I changed my mind”.
Cuban also went on his social media baby, Cyber Dusk, Thursday, telling Mavericks fans, “There will be a time when I detail everything I know regarding the last 48 hours”.
National Basteball Association rules allow players to negotiate contracts, but not sign them, giving the league and union time to audit financials and establish a team payroll limit.
Paul had to cut short his vacation in the Carribbean with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade so he can join this pursuit.
Shane Larkin, who signed with the Nets as a free agent on Thursday and spent his rookie season in Dallas, said it’s a hard situation to talk about. Paul was apparently referring to the reports that he and Jordan had a strained relationship.
Broussard later corrected himself, noting that Jordan, the Clippers, and Cuban were in Houston, not Dallas.
Griffin arrived in Houston a day before the said meeting to have dinner with Jordan, per Stein and Shelburne.
