‘Ox’ sets sight on more goals
This should provide the Gunners with an additional shot of confidence ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, knowing that they have an early victory over the defending champions under their belts.
Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the decisive goal in Sunday’s 1-0 Community Shield win over Chelsea at Wembley.
The result was Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger’s first victory over Jose Mourinho in 14 attempts, but Giroud told reporters it signalled the Gunners’ ability to push Chelsea for the title this season. Admit no possibility that you are wrong, and leave the audience in awe of your wisdom – all the while knowing that if you’re ever called upon to change your mind, nearly nobody will remember what you said in the first place anyway.
But after five wins in pre-season and with goalkeeper Petr Cech producing an assured showing against his former club, Arsenal will go into this weekend’s league opener at home to West Ham brimming with optimism.
“If it was hard before, winning the Premier League will now be even more hard because of the players who have been signed this summer”.
“That’s the mentality I was brought up with on a daily basis – that’s the same as the manager, that’s what he wants and demands from his players”, Terry added. It’s going to be even tougher this year.
He then netted 42 goals in as many matches as Arsenal went on to be crowned champions for the third season in succession.
But, above all this, it means we get to laugh at Jose Mourinho for a little win.
“Let’s be fair, the game’s been won on a piece of individual play to smash it in the top corner, but chance-wise we had the majority of the play“, the England defender said. “I think there will be more defeats, more lost points for the top teams”.
“We know what we are capable of doing, have a great squad, and are just as excited as well about what this season might hold for us”, he said. “We need to keep a high level of urgency to start well because last year we had a problem”. “We’re ready. I hope we’ll be spared injuries, because we really have a super squad”.
If the young Englishman can remain fit throughout the season for Arsenal FC, he is likely to see a lot of game time in that role and should get all the opportunities he needs to meet his personal goals target for the season.
