Ozuna, Prado power Marlins to 9-7 win over Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies’ Darnell Sweeney, left, pops out to second during the fifth inning of a baseball game against the Miami Marlins, Thursday, August 20, 2015, in Miami.
The Marlins outedged the Phillies 9-7 after an fantastic game from outfielder Marcell Ozuna.
The offensive eruption was more than enough for Brad Hand, who allowed four hits and one run in six innings, striking out five.
Hand left the game with an 8-1 lead, but Philadelphia got to Miami’s bullpen, scoring six runs in the final three innings.
Hitting a home run off a foul pole is a rare, but not completely unusual.
Winners of four of their last five, the Marlins pounded Phillies starter Jerome Williams, who departed in the second inning after relinquishing eight runs and recording just five outs. “I’ve seen Giancarlo (Stanton) hit moon shots, but this one was up there with him”. He struck out five and has gone 264 straight batters without allowing a home run at home, which is the third-longest active streak in the majors.
Justin Bour, Derek Dietrich, and Hechavarria each drove in a run in the first inning for the Marlins, who also scored a run on a wild pitch by Williams to lead 4-1.
After the explosive first two frames, Miami stayed off the board until the eighth when Ichiro Suzuki scored following a triple. “Just one thing after another”, he said of this disappointing season.
