Ozzie the bald eagle receiving medical care
Ozzie, the famous bald eagle, died, according to the Center for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) on Sanibel Island, Florida.
Ozzie’s return to the nest was announced in a triumphant Facebook post on September 19.
It was Ozzie’s second stay at the clinic.
Representatives of the Eagle Cam also asked their Facebook followers to remain kind, respectful and understanding and “remember this is a volunteer project and we strive to do the best we can each and every day”.
The beginning of the end for Ozzie came in March after he suffered broke bones, possibly after being hit by a train or auto, and spent three months in the spring recuperating at CROW’s hospital. Bald eagles typically mate for life but will mate with another eagle if their partner dies or is missing.
He became an internet sensation in 2012, when a family in Fort Myers, Florida, set up a webcam to document his loving relationship with Harriet.
Ozzie and Harriet have been watched by millions of viewers across the world in recent years, after a North Fort Myers family placed streaming video cameras near their nests. It has also been reported the bird had a nasty run-in with barbwire.
“A very sad day but unbelievable to hear how Ozzie has touched so many”, said a post on the SWFL Eagle Cam Twitter account late Wednesday.
Though mating season was over, many speculated Harriet welcomed FV’s presence as he did not appear to be threatening.
“There was just no bringing him back”. Tension was high at the nest as all three eagles were seen flying in an out of the nest.
Fans were divided in their allegiances. “Hopefully neither will get seriously hurt”. (CROW) that Ozzie has been found and is once again in the organization’s care.
It’s the end of an eagle era.
Ozzie’s death is one that has people posting comments on social media. Ozzie and Harriet devotees minced no words in honoring their lost symbol of liberty, who is believed to have lived 25 years.
“We know CROW did everything they could”, Pritchett said.
“He is soaring even higher now!”
