P!nk named newest UNICEF ambassador
The new appointment builds on her current role as the UNICEF Kid Power national spokesperson and follows in the footsteps of the late Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn and Sex And The City’s Sarah Jessica Parker.
With 40 million albums sold, Pink is now putting her focus on new challenges outside of music, most of all her 4-year-old daughter Willow. “I’ve always wanted to work with UNICEF”, Pink said.
Pop star P!nk has just recently been named as a UNICEF ambassador on Monday, with her mission already clear: promote physical activity in US children.
‘Statistically, one in four kids in the US are inactive. UNICEF’s partner firms, such as Disney and Target, will send funds required to deliver the peanut paste packets to Haiti and other nations affected heavily by child malnutrition as the kids keep earning points.
The Kid Power app also teaches children about the countries and cultures they are helping and they can unlock special videos and messages and track their progress online. “So UNICEF has found a way, with Kid Power, to combat both problems at the same time”, Pink continued.
“When you get to see it with your own eyes and you see that something works, then it’s a lot easier to get behind and advocate for it and try to make other people aware of it”, she said, recalling the trip she made over the summer to Port-au-Prince.
“Between Carey, myself and Willow, it’s going to get a little competitive”, she laughed.
Pink and her trainer, Jeannette Jenkins, along with some children from Public School 41, Greenwich Village School in NY, demonstrated workout moves live on “GMA” to show children how they can remain active and have fun at the same time. “As a UNICEF Ambassador, I want to use my platform to help end global malnutrition, which is why I’m so excited about UNICEF Kid Power – which gets kids and families involved in saving children’s lives”.
