Packers look to get struggling offense back in sync
Peterson was injured in Sunday night’s victory over Green Bay.
Zimmer later told reporters that Peterson is “going through the evaluation process to figure out what the next procedure will be and the options that we have”, per NFL Media.
The Minnesota Vikings opened up their flashy new $1.1 billion stadium Sunday night with a 17-14 win over the Green Bay Packers, but it came at a price. It would be hard to say either him or Lacy had worked up the kind of lather that sometimes allows a back to get a first down when there isn’t a hole. Putting eight and nine players in the box, Adrian Peterson ran 12 times for just 19 yards, before he left the game with a right knee injury in the third quarter.
“Peterson’s injury was bad, but what about the first time there’s a neck injury at the stadium, or anything equally serious?”
An MRI exam Monday detected the torn meniscus.
“They got after us up front, I thought”, Zimmer said.
“He’s sitting down with the doctors and (athletic trainer Eric Sugarman) and all that stuff”, Zimmer said.
Fourth-quarter turnovers doomed Green Bay in the 110th regular-season meeting between the Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was lost for the season with a torn left ACL suffered August 30 in practice.
It sometimes can take a few months to recover from a torn meniscus, but running backs have been able to play before after suffering the injury.
It was the case Monday, on a summer-like September day, that McCarthy was back where he seems to be every year, admitting he needs to run the ball more. “We all benefit from wins, so whatever it takes to get those”. “Guess I just didn’t have it tonight”, Damarious Randall, Packers cornerback said.
Upon arriving in the locker room, Peterson was quickly ruled out.
McCarthy said extensive surgery could end Peterson’s season.
Most worrisome, though, is Peterson, the 2012 league MVP and Minnesota’s cornerstone on offense who has a torn meniscus in his right knee. That was the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that he tore before almost setting the NFL’s single-season rushing record in 2012 and being named league MVP.
Peterson, the 2015 National Football League rushing leader, finished with 19 yards on 12 carries Sunday after a slow start in Week 1, when he managed 31 yards on 19 carries against the Tennessee Titans. Sam Bradford had a brilliant debut against the Packers in Bridgewater’s place, and McKinnon and Asiata were a relatively productive tandem in 2014 when Peterson was sidelined during the fallout from a child abuse case. “I think they’re tough, determined”. Safety Chris Prosinski injured his right calf, and running back Ka’Deem Carey strained his hamstring. I give (Diggs) a lot of credit. “When you see it enough, you understand there’s a time to go for it and a time to make sure you secure the sack”. He expects the same from his team following Peterson’s injury. “They’re competitive”, Zimmer said. It’s just part of pro football. Stewart owners are going to have to decide whether to add Fozzy Whitaker (who had 131 total yards filling in for Stewart) or Cameron Artis-Payne (who has been a healthy scratch the past two weeks, but more neatly fits the “lead back” profile).
