Packers Receiver Nelson to Miss 2015 NFL Season With Knee Injury
Now he is said to be under consideration in Green Bay as well, after Packers receiver Jordy Nelson suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s preseason game.
The Green Bay Packers’ fear that Jordy Nelson sustained a season-ending knee injury Sunday was confirmed. “He will miss the remainder of the season.”
Should the initial diagnosis hold after an MRI, the Packers should expect to be without their No. 1 receiver for the entire season – a huge blow for a team with Super Bowl ambitions.
“It’s hard to lose a guy like that in a meaningless game”, Rodgers said, bemoaning the fact there are four preseason games on the schedule.
Coach Mike McCarthy was hoping for better results from more tests on Nelsons knee in Green Bay on the teams off day on Monday.
“Rodgers brought in 20 receptions on 30 targets for 225 yards and two touchdowns in 2014, but the 6’4″, 257-pound tight end could be relied on heavily in 2015 in wake of Nelson’s injury.
Nelson is regarded as one of the more explosive wide receivers in the league, and also quite versatile as the Packers utilize him on inside and outside routes.
When put into perspective, the loss of any team’s no. 1 receiver in what is basically an exhibition game is hard to swallow. And on the surface, we tend to agree with what he said.
The Packers quarterback went on to say he felt he could prepare for the regular season without any preseason games. Rodgers said he thinks all players would be open to cutting down preseason to just “a couple” of games, but knows it would be hard when fans are paying nearly full-price for tickets.
It will be a devastating injury for one of any NFL franchise’s key professional American football players.
“We all have to get ready and the coaches need the games to evaluate the young guys”, said Cody Wallace, who will be called on by the Steelers to replace Pouncey. The Packers were driving crisply down the field on their opening possession when Rodgers hit Nelson on a little hitch route.
The Minnesota Vikings lost right tackle Phil Loadholt for the season to a torn Achilles tendon, and the Chicago Bears will be without first-round pick Kevin White for the first half of the season – and probably longer – after he underwent surgery to fix stress fractures in his shin. “I really do. I think back and how he played the second half of the season, he’s been able to sit down and go through step-by-step and understands the progression of things so much better”.
