Packers vs Cardinals Clash This Saturday in the Desert
Highlights from the NFL NFC wildcard playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins. In this game I personally think the Cardinals could win in this game.
Rodgers, who had struggled down the stretch of the regular season as Green Bay dropped their last two, found his touch and confidence and the Packers ran off 17 points to head into intermission leading 17-11.
Green Bay won at Washington 35-18 on Sunday to earn a rematch with the Cardinals after losing 38-8 at Arizona on December 27.
Aside from Rodgers, Green Bay will also need running back Eddie Lacy to step up and contribute the way he has in the regular season. They’re regarded to be the best team in the league. We’re not going to be an underdog. The Packers weren’t going to return to the practice field until Wednesday, though planning meetings for the Cardinals game have begun.
COUSINS’ DAY: Nearly three hours before kickoff, folks gathered outside a stadium tunnel to greet Redskins players – and when QB Kirk Cousins got off the team bus, a chant arose: “You like that!”.
The Packers shook off a sluggish first quarter and 11-0 deficit to race past the Redskins on the road. The Cardinals firmly believe their secondary can overwhelm the Packers’ receivers, so they would love for the game to come down to that. “We’re a different team, and obviously we’ve got a different challenge going to Arizona”. “There’s a high percentage that they make them, but you’ve still got to do it”. “It’s one or two plays and today we made them”. But it’s not like they are playing, say, the Bears. But as the Packers got better, so did Tretter.
The NFL playoffs means pressure – you win or you go home. If the Cardinals play with that same intensity, grit, and talent…then they can do the exact same thing they did to the Packers in Week 16. “You like that!” That’s the catch phrase coined by Cousins after a comeback victory earlier this season, and he heard it again, loudly, after scoring on a draw from 3 yards out early in the third quarter of his first playoff start, putting Washington ahead 18-17. We can’t have the big plays, particularly the sacks go against us. Ridiculed all season for their inability to produce without injured Jordy Nelson, wide receivers James Jones, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams and Jared Abbrederis caught 15 passes for 181 yards.
But DeSean Jackson’s apparent touchdown was overturned and the Packers defense turned in a goal-line stand to force a 25-yard Dustin Hopkins field goal and trail only 5-0 with 4:54 remaining in the first quarter.
Who’s Not: Adams is out with a leg injury, so there goes another of Rodgers’ targets. “We play for each other, and we had a good plan, played with a lot of passion and executed really well”.
