Pacteau lodges appeal against murder sentence
The killer of Irish student Karen Buckley is to appeal against his sentence.
Justice Lady Rae told the former grammar schoolboy the murder was both “callous and calculating”.
It is not yet known on what grounds evil Pacteau is appealing the sentence.
He bludgeoned Karen to death in his Ford Focus vehicle with a heavy spanner.
Paperwork has been lodged with Scottish courts by the 21-year-old murderer’s lawyers, and his appeal is expected to be heard in the coming weeks, the Irish Mirror reports.
A spokesman for the court told the publication: “Alexander Pacteau lodged a notice of intention to appeal against the sentence on 16 September 2015”.
Miss Buckley, who was studying for a masters degree in occupational health therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University, was on a night out to the Sanctuary nightclub in the city when she was preyed on by Pacteau.
The violence of the attack, which involved 13 blows to the head, was so great the imprint of the spanner head was left in her skull.
Pacteau purchased caustic soda and a barrel and placed Miss Buckley’s body inside before leaving it in a locked storage unit he rented.
Pacteau’s legal team argued that, because the Crown prosecution service did not proceed with a charge of defeating the ends of justice after his murder plea, the actions after Karen’s killing could not be taken as an aggravating factor in sentencing.
But Lady Rae said she could not ignore Pacteau’s conduct following Miss Buckley’s death.
He will also be able to play badminton, volleyball and do weight training at a special induction centre which gives a regime to ease criminals into life behind bars.
It emerged this week the killer will enjoy perks like a Playstation and satellite television when he is moved to a newly refurbished prison.
“In a matter of minutes, for some unknown and inexplicable reason, you destroyed her young life and devastated her family”.
