Padres deal Will Venable to Rangers
Josh Hamilton returned to the 15-day disabled list Thursday after soreness in his left knee didn’t improve after four days out of the Texas Rangers’ lineup.
“To be that guy that was able to stay here as long as I did, I’m so thankful for it”, Venable said per the San Diego Union Tribune.
The Texas Rangers added some outfield depth by making a commerce with San Diego, buying outfielder Will Venable. Edwards has been superb in the minors though, and the Keller High School graduate can now look to a change of scenery and a move to a pitcher’s park in San Diego to get his big-league career jump-started. “He couldn’t quite find the range”, Banister said, noting that last year’s surgery might be playing a factor. He struggled in the 2013 ALCS, and fans took his comments about moving on from the elimination as an indication that he didn’t care about the game or the Tigers. 182 with a. 250 OBP, six doubles, nine home runs and 36 RBIs. Winning five consecutive games, the Rangers sit just one game out of the final wild card spot in the American League and a mere three games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West. “His knee is still sorem and we needed to get (Will) Venable on the roster”.
In order to make room on their 40-man roster, the Rangers designated Triple-A outfielder Michael Choice for assignment.
Will Venable is easily an upgrade for the Rangers.
It’s fun to be reacquainted with “sources” again after an uneventful Trade Deadline for the San Diego Padres, but here they are again. “He can play center field for us, right field and left field”, manager Jeff Banister said. Right now, all three of the Rangers’ starting outfielders, Delino DeShields Jr., Shin-Soo Choo, and Josh Hamilton also hit from the left side of the plate.
