Pak army chief says CPEC benefits can be shared with Afghanistan
General Sharif is scheduled to address a meeting at Portcullis House on Thursday.
General Raheel’s statement came hours after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif proposed a new peace initiative with India centred around the demilitarisation of the disputed territory of Kashmir.
Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has said that “a peaceful Afghanistan” can start regional connectivity and the benefits of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) can be shared between the two countries. “If this problematic situation will continue, there would be no guarantee of peace and stability in the region”, General Raheel stated.
He said that Pakistan wishes to have improved ties with India, including all other neighboring countries, but no compromise will be made on dignity and sovereignty.
He said practical steps were required to manage Pak-Afghan borders for gainful conclusion of military operation Zarb-e-Azb.
Afghanistan has been particularity accusing Pakistan of giving space to Haqqani network.
“Pakistan Army successfully conducted around 10,000 intelligence-based operations across the country, killing terrorists and their abettors”, the army chief said.
This is the second visit of Gen Raheel to Britain this year.
He was received at the airport by top British government officials and high military command.
