Pak arrests 4 men behind Bacha Khan University attack
As the Bacha Khan University reopened with the renewed spirit to defeat terrorism, the students staged protest demonstration outside the premises to resent the January 20 cowardly attack on the hub of educational activities.
Pakistan’s most populous province has ordered schools shut for five days and told 22.5 million students to stay at home – not because of security fears after gunmen attacked a university but because of cold weather, an official said on Tuesday.
Pakistan has launched a major crackdown against militants holed up along its porous border with Afghanistan, but the university attack shows they retain the capacity to launch deadly raids, particularly against targets where security is relatively weak.
“The two women took advantage of the culture and used their veils to bring out the purchased weapons from the tribal region”, said Bajwa. He said the attack on BKU was planned and controlled from Afghanistan as the phone call of commander Omer Mansoor, who later claimed responsibility, was made from Afghanistan. On Friday, the Taliban faction behind the massacre posted a video message vowing to target schools throughout Pakistan, calling them nurseries for people who challenge Allah’s law.
At least 21 people, mostly students, were killed and several others injured when armed militants stormed the university campus and opened fire on them in Charsadda town last week, an year after over 150 people, mostly students, were killed in an attack on an army-run school in Peshawar. Bajwa said the operation was progressing successfully.
