Pak PM Nawaz Sharif sends mangoes to Modi on Eid
In a huge relief for Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a high-level probe by the Supreme Court today absolved his party of allegedly rigging the 2013 general election which the PML-N won by a landslide.
The 237-page Report, presented by the Commission to the Government yesterday, has been made public and is available on the website of the Pakistan Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights.
In a bid to normalise escalating border tensions between the two nuclear armed neighbouring countries, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent a box of mangoes to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Indian media reported on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has claimed victory and urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan to apologize to the nation. He said the problems can not be solved on the roads but in the parliament which is representative of the people.
The ongoing military operation against terrorists and Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace dialogue have also been appreciated, the report added.
“Now that the respected inquiry commission has confirmed the transparency of the 2013 polls, the door of allegations and accusations should be closed forever”, said the premier.
He said establishment of governments as per mandate of the people, National Action Plan, Constitutional Amendments and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are some of the major decisions that were taken with consensus.
It was clearly stated in the report that none of the allegations leveled by PTI or other parties against any institution or an individual were proved, despite the proofs of rigging provided by PTI.
“I don’t believe in division of government and opposition on national issues”.
Prime Minister Sharif said despite all provocations, “we exhibited tolerance and tried to resolve the issues with democratic spirit”.
He further said he intends to pursue this principle in future as well and expressed the hope that those who wasted precious time of the nation would also learn the lesson and desist from negative politics.
He said it was the only way forward which can lead us to positive and constructive politics.
