Pakistan expresses concern over cancellation of Samjhauta Express by India
Meanwhile, over 200 Indian and Pakistani passengers of Samjhauta Express have been yesterday stranded on the Wagah railway station for over 5 hours after the practice was not allowed to depart for Attari.
Scheduled to move only twice a week, the train’s departure has now been delayed till Thursday, said Tahir.
Spokesman says Indian authorities cancelled train’s operation on the pretext of security reason.
Officials from across the borders had informed about suspending the service on Monday citing security concerns due to ongoing farmers’ protests in Indian province of Punjab.
The practice runs non-cease between Delhi and Attari from the place the passengers board the Attari Wagaha Link Express with Attari being in India and Wagha in Pakistan.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that Samjhauta Express was among 75 trains travelling through Punjab that were cancelled due to local agitation, including rail blockade.
Spokesperson’s response came on Saturday night following a media query about Indians stranded in Pakistan due to cancellation of Samjhauta Express.
Earlier today Indian Railways officials had requested Pakistan railways that there has been a protest being held by the Indian farmers and may be a few violent protesters can attack the train as well so its better for train not to cross the border.
“We expect the Indian side to make utmost efforts to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future and facilitate the travellers from Pakistan and India”, the Foreign Office added.
