Pakistan ignores India’s condition, invites FS for talks on Kashmir
In his letter of August 5, Prime Minister Sharif called for efforts to end the persistent and egregious violation of the basic human rights of the Kashmiri people and also to implement the decades-old UN Security Council resolutions providing a framework for the settlement of Kashmir dispute through a plebiscite.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman said its foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry had given a reply to Jaishankar’s proposal for talks on cross-border terror.
The spokesman said it is time India is reminded by United Nations and worldwide community to ensure realization of the right of self-determination of people of Jammu and Kashmir as per Security Council resolutions.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra, in his address on August 15, India’s Independence Day, sparked controversy when he claimed: “People of Balochistan, Gilgit and PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) have thanked me a lot in past few days, I am grateful to them”.
To a question he said Pakistan has invited India for dialogue on Kashmir in view of grave situation in Occupied Kashmir and for the sake of regional peace.
On Thursday, India set certain conditions for talks, asserting that discussions should focus on cessation of terrorist activities in J&K and ending incitement to violence and terror in the valley.
Pakistan has been actively pursuing the Kashmir issue at various forums at the United Nations, with Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi focusing on it in her statement at the General Assembly in a debate on human rights.
“The ball is in Pakistan’s court now”.
“He said that his visit should provide the opportunity to receive a briefing from Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary on progress in this regard”, Swarup said. On senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s comments referring to Kashmir as “India-occupied Kashmir”, Yogi said Singh’s reaction reflected the values of his party.
