Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif set to visit Karachi today
Water projects and loss of lives due to the unprecedented heatwave came under discussion.
CM Shah complained that the funds to maintain law and order in the province are granted with a delay by the federation. Repeated power outrages across the province, and particularly in Karachi, exacerbated the situation.
Farooqi said that the length of BRT Green Line spread over 17.8 kilometers, of which 3.45 kilometers would be elevated and it would have 22 stations. To this, Shah responded by thanking him and saying that the project will cost Rs16 billion.
The Chief Secretary Sindh apprised the Prime Minister about the Greater Karachi Bulk water supply scheme from Kinjhar lake to meet present and future needs.
He said K-IV project planned for 650MGD or 1,200 cusecs and was scheduled to be completed in three phases.
PM Nawaz expressed deep grief and sorrow over the heatwave incident.
The prime minister emphasized that there should be a system of coordination on a composite basis among the federal and provincial governments, rescue and relief organisations and national and provincial disaster management authorities for tackling any event or situation of natural disaster or emergency.
Abbasi Shaheed Hospital officials also confirmed two more deaths and more was reported from Sindh Government North Karachi Hospital.
Sharif described the heat wave as “unprecedented in the history of Pakistan” and promised all departments who “shirked their responsibilities adding to public misery should be held accountable in a transparent manner”.
He appreciated the role played by private welfare associations in providing help to the people.
Other participants of the meeting include Governor Sindh, Dr Eshrat Ul Ibad Khan; Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan; Minister for Climate Change, Mushahidullah Khan; Minister for Information, Pervaiz Rasheed; Minister for SAFRON, Abdul Qadir Baloch; Minister of State for Health, Saira Afzal Tarar; Chairman NDMA along with members of the Sindh Cabinet.
He was earlier planned to travel to Karachi on Monday; however, the visit has been delayed due to his engagements in Islamabad.
Karachi with population between 18 to 20 million saw a flow of bodies being brought to government hospitals or patients affected by heat-related illness passing away in these hospitals.
