Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq hired as Afghanistan National team head coach
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was on Friday appointed temporary Afghanistan cricket coach for their upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
“[Inzamam’s tenure is] now for the Zimbabwe tour and then we will be having a few meetings in Zimbabwe and after that we will be deciding, on mutual agreement, for the longer term”, Stanikzai told ESPNcricinfo.
The statement further added that Inzamam-ul-Haq was appointed as the head coach of the Afghanistan National Cricket team by the ACB and worldwide Cricket Council members after he was interviewed for the post.
Afghanistan, who beat Scotland and gave Sri Lanka a huge fright in the World Cup earlier this year, has been looking for a new coach since Andy Moles’ contract expired in August. He said, “I have no differences with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)”.
Meanwhile, the ACB announced their side for the series on September 20 and the chairman of the board Nasimullah Danish said that the team chosen for the tour is balanced.
Inzamam has made unsuccessful attempts for the past three years in getting hired as Pakistan’s full-time batting-coach.
“They are aggressive and passionate which could be both good and bad, if it is not controlled, so I will try to teach them that control and how to use their passion in the right manner”.
Afghanistan will be playing five ODIs and two Twenty20s against Zimbabwe from October 16-28.
