Pakistan spy racket busted: BSF jawan, ISI operative arrested from Jammu
“The espionage racket run by them was supported by ISI”, Yadav said, adding that the two were arrested under various provisions of India Penal Code and Official Secrets Act. He promised a lot of money but it was deposited in small amounts.
According to the police, the handler of Pakistan’s Intelligence Operative (PIO) used the contacts of different security agencies to procure secret and confidential information detrimental for the security of the country.
Sources said a Delhi Police team arrived in Rajouri on Saturday where they conducted raid at the residence of Kafaitullah and checked his bank account details. The arrests were made following interrogation of Ijaz an ISI agent who was on Friday apprehended from Meerut by the security forces. Security agencies say there could be a link to all the arrests.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav stated, “Khan is a handler of Pakistani intelligence operatives, and Rasheed was one of his chief sources”. Khan soon drew him into the network and offered him a share of the commission he received from alleged ISI agents in Pakistan for exchange of vital information on defense.
Khan disclosed that he was working as library assistant at a higher secondary school in Manjakote in Rajouri district, Yadav said. He said he had visited Pakistan in 2013 when he came in contact with an ISI agent and agreed to provide the agency with secret information from the defence forces in lieu of monetary considerations. The Crime Branch has sought Kafaitullah’s dossiers from Jammu and Kashmir police, said sources. “Information was largely passed through email, Whatsapp and Viber networks, ” he said.
A handler of Pakistan’s Intelligence Operative and one BSF (Border Security Force) serving officer have been arrested. We found documents having implications for national security in his possession. Rasheed is his relative, the police said.
“A search team has been sent to Rajouri to arrest his accomplice”, said police.
The Delhi Police so far has been tight lipped about link between Khan and Rasheed and some of the other modules busted in the country by State Police Forces but did not dismiss the possibility.
“Being in the Intelligence Wing of BSF, Rasheed had access to secret and sensitive information pertaining to deployment, border fencing and movement of the troops”, Yadav said.
