Palestinian Man Dies of Israeli-Inflicted Wounds
The killing of a 28-year-old Palestinian man by Israeli forces during a raid on al-Ahli hospital in the West Bank city of Hebron early this morning may amount to an extrajudicial execution, Amnesty worldwide has said.
In other violence on Friday near the West Bank city of Ramallah, 15 Palestinians were shot and wounded by Israelis using live fire, Palestinian medics said.
It said the suspect was behind an October 25 stabbing that seriously wounded an Israeli near the Mezad settlement outside Hebron.
Violence since the start of October, including a wave of knife, gun and car-ramming attacks, has killed 78 people on the Palestinian side – including one Israeli Arab – and 10 Israelis.
Hebron’s deputy governor, Marwan Sultan, condemned the Israeli troops for invading “Area A”, territory in the West Bank that is supposed to be under full Palestinian security control and where Al Ahli hospital is located.
That same day, 22-year-old Issa al-Shalalda, from the village of Sair near Hebron, died from wounds he sustained a day earlier after being shot during confrontations with Israeli forces.
Labour MEPs have welcomed new European Union guidelines on imports from Israeli settlements, which state Israeli producers must explicitly label farm goods and cosmetics that come from the settlements when they are sold in the EU, according to a press release.
Israel has said such demolitions are punitive and can also serve as a deterrent to other potential attackers. Another 500 Palestinian demonstrators gathered on the Israeli border in central Gaza, according to Ezz Zanoun, a local photographer from the protest.
Israeli settlements in the West Bank have been declared illegal by the United Nations.
The Shin Bet said its agents had arrested Azzam.
In other developments Friday, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair announced his return to the hard world of Mideast diplomacy, saying he was launching a new initiative to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace as a private citizen. Israel says the burial rites incite more Palestinians to violence.
Regarding the hospital raid, Palestinian Health Minister Jawad Awad accused Israeli security forces of “executing” Abdallah al-Shalalda, who he said was escorting a relative inside the facility.
The group’s advocacy coordinator, Rafat Sub Laban, told Ma’an at the end of last month, that at least 988 Palestinians had been detained, including 578 in the occupied West Bank, 258 in East Jerusalem, and 152 in Israel.
