Since Oct. 1, Palestinian stabbings, car-rammings and shooting attacks have killed 24 Israelis and a U.S. citizen.

According to local press reports, Wallstrom said in parliament that “it is vital” that there be a “thorough, credible” investigation into the deaths of Palestinians “to clarify and bring about possible accountability”. At least 140 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since mid-September.
Rights groups have accused Israel of using excessive force to quell the unrest.
The United States, the European Union and the United Nations have all expressed concern, saying that while they recognise Israel’s right to self-defence, restraint is necessary to ensure the violence does not escalate further.
A 21-year-old was shot dead near the village of Beit Jala, just outside of Bethlehem, in clashes with Israeli troops after hurling stones at troops.
One was shot in the chest during clashes between Palestinians, who threw rocks and petrol bombs, and Israeli soldiers, who drove into the southern West Bank town after shots were fired from a passing auto at a nearby army checkpoint.

Israel has been accusing the Palestinian Authority of “inciting” the violence, while the Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli control of their lands.
