Palestinian shot dead after alleged auto attack
On Thursday 26th November, at around 8 am, Israeli forces detained two young Palestinians boys at Quitoun checkpoint in occupied Hebron (Al-Khalil), allegedly throwing stones at the soldiers.
And in the early hours, clashes in the village of Qatanna, northwest of Jerusalem, resulted in the death of Yahya Taha, 21, who the Palestinian health ministry said was shot in the head.
According to the police spokeswoman Luba Samri, a man got down of a taxi and started running towards officers near a military post, brandishing a knife.
The Israeli victims were lightly injured in the incident near the flashpoint city of Hebron, according to the emergency services.
It’s the latest attack in a two-month wave of violence.
The Israeli premier Erekat added “also refuses to talk about the issues of Palestinian refugees and [the status of] Jerusalem while insisting on Israeli control of the Jordan Valley Palestinian airspace and all border crossings in any future agreement”.
Meanwhile, Israel’s defence minister told parliament that a new “massive barrier” will be built to prevent Palestinians from the southern West Bank from infiltrating into Israel.
An Israeli official said Netanyahu complained to Kerry about alleged Palestinian incitement and said any confidence-building gestures for the Palestinians would first require calm. The assailant then reportedly exited the vehicle and, knife in hand, charged at the soldiers.
Despite heightened security, according to a senior military officer, the army has proposed easing restrictions on Palestinians and providing ammunition to Palestinian security forces to avert attacks. Palestinians, meanwhile, have said it is rooted in frustrations over Israel’s nearly-half-century-long occupation of the West Bank.
Erekat went on to warn Israel against the belief that it could maintain the current status quo in the Palestinian territories indefinitely.
