Palestinian shot dead by Israeli soldier
The young man was later identified as Saad al-Atrash.
They said that the soldiers declared the area a closed military zone and blocked arrival of ambulances to evacuate the body of the killed Palestinian man.
The Palestinian health ministry said that the total death toll since the beginning of October to at least 63, over a third of which are from Hebron.
Spokesperson for the ministry Mohammed Awawda said that Jaradat succumbed to his wounds in a local hospital after a live bullet hit him in the head.
“What is happening to children (in the area) – including extrajudicial killings, raids, arrests or exposure to fire and tear gas – reflects negatively on the students’ performance at school and on the children generally”, Tahboub said.
On Monday, an Israeli soldier was stabbed and seriously injured in an attack near Hebron.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri says initial reports indicated the Israeli was a soldier, but the military declined to say whether the person who was stabbed was a soldier.
The would-be attacker drew a knife and tried to stab a soldier as his ID was checked at a “crossing” in the West Bank city, the army said in a statement. No injuries were reported.
The announcement outraged Palestinians, who rallied in the West Bank on Tuesday against the policy after the IDF withheld 11 bodies. Fourteen children were killed in these confrontations.
“Expressing strong condemnation of all terrorist attacks and deep concern over the recurrence of violence, we again call on the Palestinians and Israelis to show restraint, abandon provocative steps and rhetoric”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Anti-occupation protests by Palestinians first began when age-based restrictions were placed on access to Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque on September 13, with Israel’s subsequent heavy-handed security response serving to stoke Palestinian anger further.
