Palestinian shot, killed 2 Israelis in the West Bank
A medic shows a bullethole surrounded by bloodstains from a Palestinian man who was killed by Israeli undercover forces during a raid at Al-Ahly hospital in Hebron yesterday.
An Israeli father and son were also killed in clashes yesterday. Then came Friday’s killings.
On Thursday, Israel’s supreme court gave a green light to the destruction of five homes belonging to Palestinians accused of taking part in deadly attacks against Israelis.
During the conflict, more than 2,000 Palestinians were killed, the vast majority of them civilians, while 66 Israeli soldiers died.
Obama is not the first U.S. president to contemplate making Israeli-Palestinian peace as their legacy, only to end up putting it in the too-hard basket.
At least one other person, a teenager, was wounded in the same attack, Bin said. Differences over Iran were largely put aside as the meeting focused on Israel’s security needs and how it will stabilise relations with the Palestinians. “I feel less hope”, said Issa Amro, director of the local movement Youth Against Settlements.
The Israeli military did not provide additional details of the operation, or say whether the troops were undercover.
A Palestinian mother mourns over the body of her son Mahmud Shalaldeh, 18, who was shot by Israeli troops during clashes the previous day in the West Bank city of al-Khalil, on November 13, 2015. Amro said shopkeepers and students living outside the area were not allowed to enter to shop or attend school.
“They are firing a lot of live ammunition”, Mohannad Darabee, a photographer at the clashes, said by telephone, adding that at least 25 demonstrators were shot by live ammunition or rubber-coated steel bullets.
Every incident merely worsens the feelings of distrust.
“This is an outright crime”, Shawar said. If the Israeli police want to arrest someone, “no one can say no”, he said.
Israeli undercover units are rarely captured in action on camera and the footage has outraged Palestinians.
“They held the employees at gunpoint and stormed the room of Shalalda”, Shawar stated.
The Israeli military said forces entered the hospital to arrest Azzam Shalaldeh, who they say stabbed an Israeli last month.
Their goal is to destroy Israel.
The Israeli army confirmed the raid and shooting and said it was carried out to detain Azzam al-Shalalda, 22, over a knife attack on an Israeli settler two weeks ago in the West Bank.
The attack was immediately condemned by Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which had been treating the abducted man in its Mental Health Support Program “for victims of political violence”.
“The worldwide group should intervene to guard our individuals from the Israeli killing machine”, he stated.
Most of the violence that escalated early last month, including numerous attacks on Israelis, has been centered around occupied East Jerusalem and the Hebron district of the West Bank.
The wave of violence that erupted on October 1 has shown no letup.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
