Palestinians killed following stabbing attack in Jerusalem

Israeli security forces shot dead two Palestinians who had wounded three people in a stabbing spree along a popular walkway in Jerusalem.

Almost 130 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli military forces and settlers since violence increased at the beginning of October.

The melee ended with security forces shooting and killing the attackers.

“Three (Israeli) casualties were taken from the scene, two with multiple stab wounds and another with a gunshot wound, apparently from the police fire to neutralise the terrorists”, a police statement said.

Police said one of the Israelis may have been wounded by police gunfire. The firebombing killed a Palestinian couple and their 18-month-old son.

A man seen in a video beating a Palestinian stabber after he had already been shot by police was doing so to disarm the attacker, who was still waving a knife, police said Wednesday evening, after questioning him.

Israel blamed these lone wolf attacks and the continued violence on incitement on social media. One of them was killed immediately and the other later succumbed to his wounds, police and paramedics said. It said the people were friends of the suspects in the arson.

Shin Bet said the suspects ran an explosives laboratory in Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, and meant to carry out suicide bombings inside Israel.

Shin Bet said the arrests were made in recent weeks.

“The last time I visited here there were rockets flying around”, she said, referring to rockets fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel during the 2014 war between Israel and Palestinian militants in the enclave.
