Palmer accorded statesman-like status as tributes flow
Jack Nicklaus said his goodbyes to fellow golf legend and dear friend Arnold Palmer on Sunday in a handsome message he posted to his official Facebook page.
Ron Wellman, the Athletic Director at Wake Forest University was a friend of Arnold Palmer. “He would spend hours with his fans after a round of golf, just signing autographs, spending time with them”.
The World Golf Village became Palmer’s second home. “He came up and shook my hand, said ‘I’m Arnold Palmer, ‘ like nobody knows that, but yeah he was just a fantastic guy”.
Arnold Palmer was born in 1929 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Palmer made golf popular and to his last breath was held above all others as the single greatest influence in the sport. 91 year old Joe Teague was the Sertoma Tournament Director during that time, Teague, ” as time has gone by I ask people, did you know Palmer ever won here? I was in awe.

Randy Hernly, director of golf operations at the Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort, remembers meeting golf legend Arnold Palmer at the resort’s grand opening day back in 2002.
“He was well-respected for what he did for the game”, says Koberg. “None of that could have been possible without Arnold Palmer, Winnie Palmer and the entire family and all the doors that he opened for us”, said Alexander.
“Because of his striking good looks and his physique and his style of golf, every woman wants to be near him and every man wants to be him”, said Dr.
“He extended beyond the game of golf”.
PGA Tour tweeted about his many wins and people’s fond memories, using the hashtag #ArniesArmy, as his fans were known. That’s particularly true in North Carolina, where Palmer played golf for Wake Forest University and where he later endowed a scholarship in honor of a college buddy who was killed in a auto accident. But we believe that his legacy will stay with us for generations to come.
While Palmer in some interviews declined to reveal the precise amounts of tea and lemonade he prefers, he did make it clear in that CNBC interview that tea should be the star of the drink.
