Panama goalkeeper Jaime Penedo suspended for two matches
The president of CONCACAF said Saturday the referee acknowledged making mistakes during the contentious Gold Cup semifinal between Mexico and Panama. From that perspective, CONCACAF moved from yet another leadership scandal to a successfully drawing tournament in a matter of weeks.
Panama goalkeeper Luis Mejia made three consecutive saves, during a penalty shootout for his team to stun the United States 2-1 and secure third place at the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Saturday in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Klinsmann specifically defended two young players, center backs John Brooks and Ventura Alvarado. Mexico’s appearance comes with little surprise, but Jamaica reached the Final after a shocking 2-1 defeat of the United States in Atlanta. “Back in Jamaica, there’s got to be a party going on”.
In many ways, those are always objectives for Klinsmann as he seeks to develop a squad that can contend against the world’s best. The coach is under the impression that goalie Jaime Penedo will be suspended for his actions in the fray Wednesday, though CONCACAF has yet to officially drop that hammer.
With an eye farther down the road, Klinsmann is looking for improvement out of the junior teams.
