Pandora signs Licensing deals With Merlin Network, Sony Music, Universal Music
According to reports, Pandora’s new $10-a-month subscription service will be similar to Apple Music and Spotify, where a huge number of songs will be available on-demand with no restrictions.
As early as next week, Pandora might unveil a new $5 monthly subscription option, allowing users to skip more songs or even store some of their favorite ones, but only online. The company plans to launch a full-fledged on-demand platform by Christmas. Both companies are reportedly looking to release their own music streaming services in the near future to compete with the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.
As the new playlists were only rolled out recently, it remains to be seen whether the new additions to Apple Music will rival Spotify’s stronghold on the music streaming market.
Amazon and Pandora set to launch new music streaming services was posted in Sci-Tech of TheNews International – https://www.thenews.com.pk on September 12, 2016 and was last updated on September 12, 2016.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that these new services are in the works, but NYT says an announcement should be made in the coming weeks. “Independent music has always been at the heart of Pandora’s experience, and we are confident that Pandora’s users will appreciate and enjoy the music from Merlin’s market-leading member labels and artists as a vital element of the newly enhanced experience”.
Note that Amazon now has an unlimited on-demand music streaming service, but it is bundled with its Prime program.
On the other hand, Amazon might offer a separate $10 subscription from its regular Prime setup, which costs $99 a year. A more recent write-up reveals that Amazon may slash the specified monthly fee down to $5 for customers who are on the Echo, Amazon’s smart speaker.
The Times notes that both companies spent months negotiating licenses with record labels and music publishers for their respective services. P has a 1-year high of $22.60 and a 1-year low of $7.10.
He also added that a 50 percent price drop over the industry standard $10 a month may not be enough to entice many occasional music listeners. Pandora is a bit different than the other music services named.
