Panthers Knock Off Jags
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Yeldon in the second round of the NFL Draft on May 1, and they list him as their starting running back for the season-opening game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday – even though the former Daphne High School star played only two series in the preseason.
Following Week 1’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars fans were frustrated with several of the team’s issues.
Jacksonville tackle Luke Joeckel injured his ankle against Carolina, returned, then left again.
Also a team leader, Kuechly has a major presence in the locker room and is monumental with his on-field impact. There were too many mistakes for the Jags and they know it. It will be an intriguing process on what the game plan will be next week, especially since the offensive line has to face both Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh.
Cleveland quarterback, Charlotte resident and former Panther Josh McCown was whirled through the air like a ragdoll, and he suffered a concussion. He finished 22-of-40 for 183 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions. “We had to have a game like this to see where our bar is and see where we’re at”.
“I never think about that”, Bradley said per The Florida Times-Union.
“Obviously we didn’t make as many plays as we would have wanted, especially in the second half”, guard Zane Beadles said. He also ran for 35 yards and threw an interception.
Cam Newton didn’t light up fantasy scoreboards Sunday with only 175 yards passing, a touchdown throw and a pick (his receivers didn’t help him with a boatload of dropped passes). Yeldon was stopped inches from the end zone on his first carry, then scored on the next play.
Rivera said the Panthers might have been able to get away those missed opportunities on Sunday, but need to execute better against the Texans. Olsen had just one catch for 11 yards while Stewart totaled 81 yards on 22 touches (56 rushing, 25 receiving). “We had multiple things where we just shot ourselves in the foot”.
Panthers backup offensive tackle Daryl Williams (right knee) left the game in the first quarter and will not return. But when you fall behind and have to change the game plan and suddenly you’re throwing the ball 40 times and running it 21 times for an offense that wants to be known for its ground game, something’s not right. His first one was the fifth pick-six in his 14 career starts. Rookie Devin Funchess could emerge as a top target but he’s been hampered by a hamstring injury throughout the preseason, leaving veteran Ted Ginn Jr. and tight end Greg Olson as key cogs.
While those misses were killer, Myers wasn’t the only kicker in the league to cost his team valuable points in Week 1.
