Panthers take unbeaten streak to Dallas for Thanksgiving Day game
The Panthers have become the first National Football League team to open its schedule with 10 straight wins following a losing season, doing it in a 44-16 trouncing of Washington. An official ruled that he hit tight end Greg Olsen in the head before the ball popped into the air and dropped in his arms.
The Panthers, who have won 14 consecutive regular season games, travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
“Between the fumbles and the picks, we had a couple short fields”, Olsen said. “You nearly take it as a challenge, and it makes it nearly more enjoyable”. They pretty much beat us in all phases.
You know what I say about that?
FUNCHESS IMPROVING: The Panthers are getting improved play out of rookie wide receiver Devin Funchess, who started in place of the injured Philly Brown and had four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
This year, Newton’s completion percentage is down from last season, and while his touchdown percentage and adjusted yards per attempt are up, his interception percentage and sack percentage are also up.
The Panthers had five sacks, five fumbles forced, and five takeaways including Kurt Coleman’s interception. The team won their first two games with Romo at quarterback.
Moving forward: Newton had never thrown for more than three scores in a game in his career until Sunday when he eclipsed that in just one half.
Gruden called the ruling against Culliver “very confusing”, and said the Redskins asked the National Football League for an explanation. “The referee made a decision, made a call, and it’s not challengeable, so there’s really no use talking about it”.
The game turned on a play, though, that the Redskins wished was a turnover.
The Redskins finished with just nine first downs (27 for Carolina) and had possession of the ball for just over 21 minutes. Tony Romo is completing 72 percent of his passes for 778 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions.
Cowboys 24, Dolphins 14: MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.
The Panthers travel to Dallas for a Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Cowboys. Left tackle Trent Williams left the game in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed knee injury. They have lost nine straight overall on the road going back to last season.
Even though Carolina was wobbly after building leads in the previous two home games against Indianapolis and Green Bay, the Redskins didn’t provide a comeback threat.
Initially, it seemed as though the Redskins might be able to hang with the Panthers as they ended the first quarter tied with the unbeaten NFC South foes.
Texans 24, Jets 17: HOUSTON – T.J Yates tossed two TDs to DeAndre Hopkins, who had 118 yards receiving, and Alfred Blue caught a scoring pass from receiver Cecil Shorts in Houston’s win. All he did was throw for a career-best five touchdowns, with a team-record four coming in the first half.
Colin Jones was burned on a 56-yard touchdown to DeSean Jackson early in the game, but other than that, the secondary clamped down. The Redskins are home against the New York Giants next Sunday.
Cardinals 34, Bengals 31: GLENDALE, Ariz.
But Palmer completed two quick passes and Arizona benefitted from a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Cincinnati defender Domata Peko to put kicker Chandler Catanzaro in position to boot a game winning 33-yard field goal with two seconds left.
