Panthers’ Thomas Davis Breaks Arm, Vows to Play in Super Bowl
No one had a rougher night than Carson Palmer. But while Denver barely escaped with a win, Carolina was impressive in blowing out Arizona.
GINNED UP: Ted Ginn Jr. spent a very unproductive 2014 with the Cardinals, who quickly released him after that season.
On Sunday against the Panthers, he was at his worst at the most inopportune time. Cam rushed for over 600 yards, which included ten touchdowns. The beatdown was on.
Ginn has had his best year, and against Arizona he had one of his best games. This is something that if it comes down to a pain tolerance and playing through it, I will be there. That’s as close as he would get, though.
Carolina was forced to punt for the second consecutive drive and Arizona looked to be gaining control of the momentum.
But Davis isn’t the only concern the Panthers had to deal with after yesterday’s game. Former teammate Steve Smith called him out as a rookie when Newton was known to sit alone on the bench with a towel over his head. And he did so ably, avoiding turnovers and tossing two touchdown passes. The Panthers were up 24-7 at halftime Sunday.
It just would be all kinds of wrong for Carolina to make it to the biggest game without its most sterling player. But he proceeded to toss a pick immediately.
The Cardinals committed seven turnovers, and Palmer was responsible for six of them – four interceptions and two lost fumbles. He then provided an inspirational second-half performance that catapulted the Panthers to a 49-15 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. That record was set two years ago when the Broncos and Seattle Seahawks met in the Meadowlands.
The defensive line was another big lift to this Carolina defense, like they have been all year. Newton wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again. The Broncos beat the Patriots because they pressured Tom Brady.
Denver’s top-ranked defense certainly delivered a message.
“One of the things Coach Ditka emphasized to us was to enjoy the moment”, Rivera told reporters after Sunday’s victory in the NFC Championship. He was injured trying to tackle tight end Darren Fells. JJ Nelson added the two-point conversion.
Newton sparked Carolina to a 13th consecutive home triumph that sent the Panthers to only their second Super Bowl.
And Carolina can play some serious “D”, too. In an interview with ESPN.com in 2007, Anderson said he’s played 54 holes in a day numerous times, and his dream foursome would be Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Ben Hogan. “I see how much that helped me out, especially when I was younger”.
