Panthers’ Thomas Davis wants to play in Super Bowl despite broken arm
Davis, who was selected to the Pro Bowl, was injured tackling Arizona Cardinals tight end Darren Fells in the second quarter of the NFC Championship game Sunday. His right wrist and forearm were wrapped on the sideline as he was ruled out for the rest of the game shortly thereafter.
It wasn’t obvious by looking at it, but Davis said his arm was broken.
“My understanding is if everything goes well, it is most certainly something he’ll be able to play with”, Rivera said of Davis, a team captain. The severity of the break is unknown at present, though his wife confirmed on Instagram that Davis underwent surgery for the injury Monday morning. “The more severe your injury, however, the longer your recovery may be”.
Davis had six tackles and two tackles for loss before leaving.
In 2011, the linebacker tore his ACL for the third time in three years.
Rivera is also the first former Cal player to serve as a head coach in the Super Bowl.
However, Davis brings something to the table that Thompson doesn’t: experience. But the 2005 first-round pick said he will be on the field for the February 7 Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California.
“I don’t put it past Thomas playing”, defensive tackle Kawann Short said.
The Panthers linebacker fractured his arm in Carolina’s NFC Championship win.
“I got two weeks to heal up, and I’m going to use every minute of that”, he said.
If Davis can handle the pain associated with a broken arm, he can play. “We will see, but knowing him, I don’t doubt any word he says”.
