PAOK holds Dortmund to a 1-1 draw
BVB are set to face Bayern Munich on Sunday, and a fresh first team is necessary if the Ruhr side are to avoid going seven points off the pace in the Bundesliga title race.
Thomas Tuchel declared himself satisfied after Borussia Dortmund maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw at PAOK.
Sunday’s mouth-watering match is billed here as Germany’s “Klassiker“, but Watzke insists Dortmund cannot match Bayern’s bumper, star-studded squad over the 34 matches of a Bundesliga season. “The whole of Germany’s football community will be looking in our direction with great excitement on Sunday”, said Mueller. Third-place finisher Borussia Moenchengladbach is 15 behind and fourth-place Bayer Leverkusen is also nine behind.
“We see ourselves as challengers of teams who finished ahead of us last season in the league”.
“We have to keep an eye on the demands being placed on the players”, Tuchel said.
Lewandowski’s goal run has been helped immensely by the assists of wingers Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman, both new signings who have settled into the team in record time and filled the gaps left by injured Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
“We’re playing much better, we can play wider and our strikers have more chances”.
Eight visiting German fans have been arrested following clashes with Greek police that briefly stopped play during a Europa League match between PAOK and Borussia Dortmund in Thessaloniki.
Defenders Mats Hummels and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, midfielders Shinji Kagawa and Ilkay Gundogan, as well as forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were all left out of the trip to Thessaloniki. But right behind them is Dortmund.
With nine goals in seven Bundesliga games, Aubameyang is just one behind Lewandowski.
Gladbach’s caretaker coach Andre Schubert is chasing his third straight league win as the hunt to find Lucien Favre’s replacement goes on.
