Parachutist Dies After Air Show Collision
Two parachutists injured Saturday after apparently colliding in mid-air while performing a stunt at an air show in Chicago, the US military said.
Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood, 32, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon after being injured in the air show.
One jumper is a Navy sailor, whose team is nicknamed the Leap Frogs, and the other is a member of the Army parachute team, nicknamed the Golden Knights.
Dixon said a group of about 13 parachutists had just separated from a circle formation during a “bombburst procedure” – a stunt in which red smoke trails the parachutists in the air. He underwent brain surgery to relieve the pressure in his head, WGN reported. The Golden Knights have suspended their tour and the soldiers are heading back to Fort Bragg in the next day or so.
An investigation into what exactly caused the accident is ongoing. He is survived by his wife, Lyndsay, the Army said in a statement. Last month, a member of the Golden Knights team was taken to the hospital after a landing mishap in Wisconsin.

A Forward Observer, Hood received numerous awards, including two Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medal, the Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder, Air Assault and Combat Action Badges.
Hood, who was with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, deployed his emergency chute and possibly hit a building in the Gold Coast neighborhood near Schiller and Lake Shore Drive.
Witnesses at the scene of Saturday’s accident told the Chicago Tribune that one of the parachutists hit a building in the upscale lakefront district, but the reports had not been confirmed by fire officials.
