‘Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension’ shunned by many theater circuits due to
Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension, and it shows more footage of the little girl’s connection with the demon Toby and the dark portal on her bedroom’s wall. The most recent Paranormal film was out for seven weeks, so assuming The Ghost Dimension is in theaters for a similar amount of time, you’d be able to rent it towards the end of the December.
Paramount has chosen to divert their resources towards drumming up revenue through Video On Demand channels, and movie theater owners aren’t pleased. The final installment of “Paranormal Activity” movie series is slated for a release in US theaters on October 23.
Cinema chains that did sign up include New Orleans-based Southern Theatres, which is among the 10 largest circuits in the US, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Canada’s Landmark Cinemas and upscale exhibitor iPic. The reason? Many American cinema chains aren’t carrying the movie. A few believe that with the right split, say a 35% share toward the exhibitor, that a few of these major chains might have been seduced.
What they didn’t know was that the house was the original location of the first Paranormal Activity released in 2007.
What’s the deal? Well, Paramount is experimenting with a new VOD strategy where their movies will be available for rental shortly after they play on the big screen. We want the theatrical window to flourish. Scouts Guide will see a decent amount of its P&A spent in the digital ad space. During the film’s theatrical run, then Radius co-topper Tom Quinn told Deadline, “VOD really doesn’t draw in an under-25 audience for horror”.
That’ll teach them to home-hunt before Halloween.
