Pardew Satisfied With Supersport Success – Crystal Palace
Patrick Bamford made his Crystal Palace debut as the Eagles continued their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Supersport United in Cape Town.
The Early strike sparked a first-half blitz for the visitors with Chung-yong Lee, Jordon Mutch and Fraizer Campbell all finding the net to give the Premier League outfit a 4-0 advantage at the break.
Pardew agreed, and had some words of advice for SuperSport.
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says that the Eagles have not finished signing players, having already captured Yohan Cabaye, Patrick Bamford and Alex McCarthy. But Palace would take the lead a few seconds later, when the resultant corner was headed in by Crystal Palace captain Jedinak.
Skipper Mile Jedinak got the scoring under way after just three minutes by turning home Scott Dann’s flick-on from close range.
Then two minutes later, Frazier Campbell converted Jason Puncheon’s deflected effort for the fourth goal. “The standard of the opposition was probably below where they wanted to be in the first half but in the second they did well and should have scored at least one goal”.
“They were the better side in the second half and they can take some confidence from that”.
It will not be easy, though, but given the progress the team made under former Newcastle United manager Pardew last season, the fans should be hopeful. Palace looked a bit disjointed after making a number of changes but started to settle again. Bamford was played through on goal in the 64th minute but his shot was saved by Williams.
Palace pressed for further goals, with Cabaye looking particularly impressive, but failed to add any more in the second half.
With Sunday’s tie against Sporting Lisbon now on our calender and the chance of picking up some silverware this pre season, that’s obviously the aim for the midfielder now.
