Parents, rejoice: YouTube Kids app is finally being integrated with YouTube Red
The YouTube Kids app was launched a year ago to aggregate kid-friendly videos, but it didn’t support YouTube Red. Last but not least is the ability to use YouTube in background mode – in other words, you can now start up those kids tunes and play them in the background while still using Google Maps to get where you need to be.
YouTube Kids users will now also be able to enjoy other benefits of the YouTube Red subscription through the app, including the ability to download videos to watch offline and access to uninterrupted ad-free music.
YouTube Kids launched in February 2015 and reportedly has over 10 billion views. Since then, fans of the YouTube Kids app have petitioned the video site to extend the features offered by YouTube Red onto the family-friend video hub, and now, YouTube has responded.
As of today, subscribers to YouTube Red will now get all those great features packed into YouTube Kids.
The news marks the latest in YouTube’s efforts to make the app more family-friendly.
YouTube Kids, the child-friendly version of YouTube’s service launched previous year which faced criticism for the way it handled advertisements, has today launched a version of the service that will offer parents the option to pay for an ad-free experience.
“We spend a lot of time testing it within our team but also getting feedback from people who care and parents who are likely to be users as well”, Ducard said.
Google added that is working to add more features to YouTube Kids in the near future “that’ll give parents more choice on how to customize the content that appears or doesn’t appear in their YouTube Kids experience”.
