Paris attacks: Parisians offer their homes as shelter from terror with hashtag
Under the hashtag #PorteOuverte, which translates to #OpenDoor, Parisians offered shelter, a place to sleep-and usually a bit of hospitality-via Twitter.
Parisians’ rallying to offer strangers refuge in the midst of the deadly shooting attacks unfolding around central Paris has provided a few comfort in the face of abject horror.
The people of Paris are opening their doors to those affected by this evening’s tragic events.. As many as 60 people are reportedly dead. French President Francois Hollande has declared state of emergency in the country and ordered to close the borders. The closures mean no one can leave or enter the nation until the order is lifted.
People have shared the kind gestures from residents offering their homes and tweeting their address where the “door is open” for those in need of a safe place to stay. Still others are being held hostage at a music venue in the city.
