Paris police open fire on car at Tour de France barricades
Original story: as stated by an unidentified French National Police spokesman, authorities opened fire on a auto Sunday morning that drove toward a group of police officers standing guard at a safety barrier in the Place de la Concorde mere hours before the iconic Tour de France.
Armed police have opened fire on a motorist after he “deliberately” tried to run them over, as indicated by reports.
A statement by the Paris police spokesperson said that although this happened near where the Tour de France was going to happen, there was nothing to indicate that it was linked to terrorism.
Officials said police shot at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it after it sped away from a nearby checkpoint as officers tried to redirect traffic away from roads closed for the end of the epic race.
Security forces are on high alert, looking for the driver.
The pack passes through a tunnel during the twentieth stage of the Tour de France cycling race over 110.5 kilometers (68.7 miles) with start in Modane and finish in Alpe d’Huez, France, Saturday, July 25, 2015.
There were two people in the vehicle, local police officer Luc Poignant told Le Parisien.
No officers were injured, he said.
The final stage of the Tour de France is due to begin at 3.35pm, leaving from Sevres, a town southwest of Paris.
