Parkland shooting suspect booked at Florida jail
A teacher that was forced to hide beside her students in a cramped closet during the Wednesday shooting in Parkland, Florida, called for change Thursday in the current gun safety laws. Ross Township police did not specify what the Ross High School student’s post said or how it referenced the shooting. No teacher should ever be in danger in an American school.
It was the second deadliest shooting in a US public school after the 2012 massacre of 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Several people are in a critical condition. School officials reportedly identified Cruz as a potential threat who had demonstrated a fixation on guns. He was later expelled for “disciplinary reasons,” and was re-enrolled at a Broward school for at-risk youths.
The student said: “Honestly, a lot of people were saying it was going to be him”.
An orphaned 19-year-old with a troubled past and his own AR-15 rifle, Cruz was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder Thursday morning following the deadliest school shooting in the United States in five years.
“He shot through the windows and you could see through the blinds the bullets and all the glass was shattered”, said student Rebecca Bogart.
“He seemed like the kind of kid who would do something like this”.
“Everyone predicted it”, one told WFOR-TV.
At least hurricanes and tornadoes give us a modicum of advance warning; at least we’ve learned enough from past experience to build stronger structures against the onslaught, to designate evacuation routes, to seek shelter in bathrooms and basements.
“Potentially there could have been signs out there”.
“We’re children; you guys are the adults”, Hogg added.
What happened at the school?
The 19-year-old suspected shooter in Wednesday’s attack, Nikolas Cruz, was previously expelled from the school.
The alarm caused some students and staff to leave their classrooms. He made reference to the shooter’s possible mental illness, but said Congress had passed legislation to deal with that question.
Students told USA media they hid under desks or in store cupboards or barricaded doors as loud shots rang out.
The student told the show’s hosts she was working on an assignment when she heard two gunshots. He was then treated in hospital and taken into police custody.
Israel says investigators were dissecting the suspect’s social media posts. The family agreed, and Cruz moved in around Thanksgiving. Attorney Jim Lewis told the AP that the family is cooperating with authorities, and had no idea he was planning the shooting. “He is just as heartbroken and shocked as everyone else”.
Trump addressed the nation Thursday morning to offer condolences to those affected by the tragedy. Soon after the shooting, I spoke with Governor Scott to convey our deepest sympathies to the people of Florida and our determination to assist in any way that we can. After all, America already has some of the weakest gun laws in the developed world – and repealing a rule that made it a little tougher for some people to buy a gun likely makes that worse.
Looking for news you can trust? At no point did Trump mention guns or how to control them.
“We don’t really endorse doing the things he did”, Jereb said.
