Parliament winter session: Modi appeals to parties for cooperation, may
“The same Modi who used to say that Congress has not done anything in the last 60 years, now, suddenly remembered that earlier Prime Ministers had also contributed in nation’s development”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh on Friday evening -intended to resolve the imbroglio over the goods & services tax (GST) Bill -yielded no immediate outcome but may have broken the ice, giving some hope to the government that a deal could be reached soon.
What transpired in the meeting, was there any assurance from the Congress for the passage of crucial bills including the GST, are some the crucial question that shall unfold in comming days of the parliament session.
“I quite agree with the Congress party leadership when they say that a solution has to be found by way of discussion”.
Prime Minister Modi will intervene and conclude the debate in the Parliament on the Constitution, on the second day of the Winter Session today.
“The Congress party leaders will be discussing this within their own party and there would be after sometime a fresh contact between the Government and the Congress leaders on this subject”, Jaitley said. “Thirty out of 32 parties have said they want the GST to be passed and I am confident now about its outcome”, Naidu added.
Referring to Congress victory in Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat in a recent by-poll in Madhya Pradesh, Singh said that Modi and Chouhan (Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh) should clearly understand that nothing will happen by making hollow promises and it clearly reflects that tribals are angry with them especially, Chouhan. “Hope the government has registered our concern and the merit of what we are saying”, Sharma said. “The three demands of Congress were neither political nor partisan”, Deputy Leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma told reporters. “It has to be effective…”
The Congress said that it has been a constructive engagement and it will be a work in progress.
