Parramatta allegations to be investigated
The Eels are alleged to have circumvented the NRL’s strict salary cap by utilising third-party payments to top up the salaries of Jarryd Hayne, Chris Sandow and Will Hopoate.
On Thursday evening the Eels released a statement confirming the club and the player were done.
Warrington Wolves have confirmed that half-back Chris Sandow has signed for them with immediate effect from Parramatta Eels.
Warrington head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “He’s a very exciting prospect”.
The deal ends a roller-coaster stint for Sandow at Parramatta, during which he won the club’s 2014 player-of-the-year award but also spent time playing for NSW Cup feeder team Wentworthville in each of his four seasons.
Another NRL club will soon be exposed for salary cap breaches in the wake of the NRL beginning investigations into further alleged violations at the Parramatta Eels.
Mr Weeks said the recent salary cap penalties and conditions imposed on the Parramatta club would give the NRL enhanced access to player remuneration records.
“Obviously I can show you, I’ll put together clips of the things people don’t see, what he doesn’t do in games, and the defence he comes up with”.
“The club thanks Chris for his time at the Eels and wishes him all the best for his future”.
Sandow, who made 84 appearances for Souths before moving to the Eels in 2012, will be a straight replacement for Richie Myler, who was not offered a new contract by the Wolves and is joining Catalans Dragons at the end of the season.
Sandow then posted the following: “I’m sick of these big mouth c**** down here they think I’m one on my own should we run a muck or what I’m over the bulls***”.
