Part of western NC high school collapses with students inside
Officials tell NBC Charlotte that there are multiple injuries in the collapse of a concrete-covered area on the campus of North Iredell High School. There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.
WFMY News 2’s news partner, WCNC, confirmed the incident happened Saturday afternoon. Multiple agencies were called to the scene. Kids were in the area at the time of the collapse, fire officials said.
Firefighters said a large box truck ran into a pre-cast concrete canopy at the school during a band competition, and that a few students were trapped. Mooresville Fire & Rescue reported that several students were injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Sources told WBTV “all on duty and off duty paramedics” were called to the scene.
According to the high school’s website, children were at the school for a band competition.
