Passengers advised to check flights due to fog disruption
It comes after a few 129 flights – equivalent to 10 per cent of departures – were cancelled at Heathrow on Monday because of air traffic restrictions caused by low visibility.
A few passengers told of their relief on reaching London after delays on Sunday, which also saw around 50 flights cancelled at Heathrow.
According to sources at the Heathrow airport, more than 125 flights have been cancelled and many more delayed.
A spokesperson said extra “passenger ambassadors” were providing assistance to travellers and apologised for the disruption.
After dozens of the budget airline’s flights were delayed or cancelled on Sunday, many more were hit today.
Those hoping to travel through Gatwick have also been advised to check ahead for any disruption.
Leeds Bradford Airport: “Due to adverse weather conditions a few flights have been affected, please contact your airline or visit our Arrivals and Departures page for the latest flight information”.
Two flights due to travel tomorrow between Dublin and London (EI154 and EI155) have been cancelled because of further heavy fog expected in London in the morning.
“Drive slowly, use fog lights or better yet stay inside”.
Motorists were advised to take extra care on the UK’s roads on Monday morning, when many schools return from the half-term break, amid hazardous driving conditions and poor visibility.
The UK Meteorological Office has issued a yellow alert warning, as Air Traffic Controllers at Heathrow Airport in particular have issued requests that airlines reduce today’s schedules to maintain safety. There are widespread cancellations across European airports.
Many travelers have been harassed due to fog but, Sky News presenter Eamonn Holmes remained optimistic.
“Much of the United Kingdom will be dry but with mist, fog and low cloud persisting throughout the day”, said a spokesman for Meteogroup.
Flights also were scrapped at London’s City and Gatwick airports and at Manchester Airport in northwest England.
Bonfires and firework displays are expected to add to the foggy conditions throughout this week as people celebrate Guy Fawkes Night, an annual commemoration of the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in November 1605, across Britain.
