Pat Harrington Jr., Actor, 1929
The news was confirmed by the actor’s daughter, Tresa Harrington, in a Facebook post.
Bonnie Franklin, left, MacKenzie Phillips, second from left, Valerie Bertinelli and Pat Harrington, right, of the 1970’s sitcom “One Day at a Time”, were reunited for a segment on TODAY on February 26, 2008.
Franklin’s Ann Romano is both sensible and exasperated as she juggles a career, her home life and come-ons from men such as Harrington’s Schneider, a seedy building custodian who tells her, “The ladies in this building don’t call me “super” for nothing”.
Schneider starts out as the rough-around-the-edges building superintendent who’s always all-too ready to dispense advice – but was slowly welcomed throughout the show as a member of the family.
Harrington played handyman Schneider on the popular 1970s and 1980s U.S. TV comedy “One Day at a Time“.
The younger Harrington graduated with a B.A. from Fordham University, where he majored in philosophy and government, then received a masters in political philosophy from the Bronx school in 1952.
In 1981, he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
After a stint in the Air Force during the Korean War, Harrington sold ads for NBC. “Here’s what you had: You had a middle-aged single man who was lonesome”.
“Without the mustache and the attitude, they’re not gonna get me”, he said.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Harrington is survived by four children.
Most recently he appeared on an episode of Hot In Cleveland, which stars his old One Day At A Time screen mate Bertinelli.
