Pathankot Attack: Pakistan Arrests JeM Members
Azhar is being considered as the mastermind of the terror attack over Pathankot Air Force Station in which seven soldiers were killed.
Pakistan has sent out the initial findings to New Delhi and a response is expected from Indian authorities, report said. No peace talks now till Pakistan takes action against Pathankot terrorists and India is satisfied with Pakistan’s efforts.
The Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary-level talks appear to be unlikely this week with India taking the stand that Pakistan has to act on the leads given to it about the terror attack on the Pathankot air base.
Last week India put the ball squarely in Pakistan’s court, linking the FS-level talks to Islamabad’s “prompt and decisive” action in the Pathankot terror attack for which it has provided “actionable intelligence”.
Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies on Wednesday arrested around a dozen people from different cities of southern Punjab on suspicion of their links with terrorists who attacked Indian airbase in Pathankot earlier this month.
According to the release, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today called a high-level meeting to review the prevailing security situation.
“The participation of the Chief of Army Staff (Raheel Sharif) in a meeting chaired by the prime minister to consider the information provided by India is to be welcomed. We want friendship but the balm on the wounds inflicted upon us in Pathankot will only be applied when action is taken against the attackers and the conspirators of the attack”, he said.
“There is no reason to distrust (avishvaas) them (Pakistan) so early”, he said.
“This investigation will be a major test of the prime minister to move Pakistan-India relationship forward and to break the cycle of off-again on-again talks between the two neighbours” the source added. It’s also unclear if Pakistan’s civilian and military leaders are on the same page when it comes to improving ties with India.
Asked whether Kerry noticed any change in Pakistan’s tone, since it had made similar promises in the context of Mumbai also, the official said, “I am not going to define it as change in tone”.
