Pathankot terror attack: Here are the proofs which nail Pakistan
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged his Pakistani counterpart Tuesday (Jan 5) to take “firm and immediate action” against those behind an attack on an Indian air force base that left seven soldiers dead.
In response, Modi emphasised on Pakistan to take firm and immediate action against individuals responsible or terrorists linked to Pathankot airbase attack.
Talking to Modi, Sharif expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in Pathankot terror attack, and assured him that Pakistan would investigate in detail on the leads and information provided by the government of India.
The minister’s visit is aimed at getting a first hand assessment of the ground situation at the base, close to worldwide border with Pakistan.
The defence minister also said that from the weapons recovered so far from the terrorists, there are indications that they were sourced from Pakistan. “We have been clear with the highest levels of the government of Pakistan that it must continue to target all militant groups”, Kirby said. “These terrorists had come well prepared and were heavily armed” the NSG said in a short briefing.
Earlier, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry had issued an unusual statement late last evening that it would “follow up” on the leads provided to it regarding Pathankot attackers.
“The challenge of terrorism calls for strengthening our resolve to a cooperative approach”, the Foreign Office said.
An alliance of of more than a dozen militant groups called the United Jihad Council, based in Pakistani Kashmir, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Defence sources said that the firing at the air force base in Punjab ceased this morning after the attack that began in the wee hours on Saturday.
It also referred to Modi’s statement before he became the PM, wherein he had questioned the logic of holding talks with Pakistan in the backdrop of violence.
The editorial noted that after Modi’s surprise visit to meet Sharif in Lahore, the Sena had warned that one should not believe them (Pakistan).
India’s Press Information Bureau said Pakistan had provided “specific and actionable” information on the attack.
