Patiala house attack case: BJP MLA OP Sharma released
Attacking Delhi Police over its inaction when journalists and JNU students were being thrashed in a court complex here yesterday, AAP today dubbed them “deaf and dumb”, and asked why no action was taken against BJP MLA O P Sharma for his alleged involvement in the assault.
After being summoned by the police on Wednesday, the first-time MLA turned up at the Tilak Marg station.
The video of CPI activist who was dragged on the street went viral, and after huge criticism of Delhi police the cops chose to summon Sharma for assaulting the activist. He was then arrested on charge of causing hurt and was released on bail, a senior police official said.
The incident took place just before the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on charges of sedition, was to be brought to the court. The lawyers are yet to depose before police.
Meanwhile, a city lawyers’ body on Thursday virtually came in defence of the attackers in black robes in the Patiala House courts, including Vikram Singh Chauhan who allegedly was garlanded in Karkardooma courts, to whose bar he belongs.
In Karkardooma courts, lawyers held a candlelight march for national integrity and against “victimisation” of lawyers.
Sharma was not named in two FIRs registered by Delhi Police in connection with the attack on JNU students and journalists outside the courts complex. I will go to the Tilak Marg Police Station at 11a.m. and will cooperate with the police, which is probing this matter.
Mr Sharma was video-taped and photographed on Monday towering over the Left leader who he flattened on the ground. Raval termed Sinha’s words as “too scandalous”. “Why they are residing in India”, he said.
